Solo show of Chinese artist Qi Yang (* 1952 in Wuhu, China) ... more >
With "Everyday Sense" we present the second solo exhibition in the gallery of Chinese artist Qi Yang (* 1952 in Wuhu, China, lives and works in Dusseldorf and Leverkusen). [Nbsp]

Prof. Qi Yang works in different expressions depending on the context. In addition to painting, his sculptures, objects, videos and photographs play a major role here. With "everyday sense" he concentrates completely on his painterly work. The tensions between culture and tradition of his Far Eastern country of birth and his present-day western home characterize the artistic existence of Qi Yang.

On the other hand, he develops his own image and form language on the basis of his experience with Chinese philosophy, traditional Chinese art and meditation practice on the one hand, and his knowledge of the currents of Western art on the other. Out of this conflict, the art of Qi Yang draws its inner driving force and thus reveals the diverse overlaps of the different worlds in the artist's permanent creative process. In the artist's painting a rather superficial style of "Abstract Expressionism, Tachism and Informel" becomes visible.

He intends to combine the painting techniques of abstract German expressionism with the philosophical reason of Taoism in the sense of "The great phenomena are without form". The shades are simple and clear, the brushwork simple and casual, the rhythmic is abstract, is constantly changing and has thus shaped Qi Yang's own painting style.
