About Charlotte Maurer ... more >

Intrusive thoughts are intrusive, troublesome thoughts that predominantly revolve around taboo and anxiety-provoking topics such as sexuality, aggressiveness, loss events, hazards and fear of contracting diseases. Almost all people experience intrusive thoughts, but are only bothered by them for a few moments or seconds. A small percentage of these people may develop OCD, depending on their appraisal style.

The works from my series of the same name thematise and visualise "intrusive thoughts". The embroideries are partly made by hand and partly by machine on water-soluble cellulose fabric. The unspeakable is spoken, causes discomfort and loses its emotional power after some time. Thoughts are just words.
